You’ve planned your trip to Sanur. You’ve sorted out your accommodation in Sanur and now you’re looking for some of the best places to eat in Sanur. And of course where to enjoy a cocktail, or Bintang or two.
Sanur is the perfect place to relax, chill out right on the beach while you enjoy the sunset, breakfast, lunch or dinner.
You’ll find many restaurants along the promenade on Sanur beach, in fact, if you are staying of one of the many hotels on Sanur beach if you head down to the beach and turn left or right you’ll be spoilt for choice.
If you are a first-time traveller to Bali or Sanur you might be wondering what is a Warung? Let me clear that up for you.
What is a Warung?
Most people will associate a warung in Sanur and throughout Bali as a locally owned, family-run, place to eat.
Warungs are pretty basic, nothing fancy with plastic tables and chairs, no tablecloths and very few facilities. You probably wouldn’t find a toilet that you could use at a traditional warung along the side of a road. You would find a toilet in a warung aimed at the tourist market that are quite ok to use.
Gone are the days of squat toilets in most tourist areas of Bali and having to carry a roll of toilet paper with you!
Don’t let the appearance of a Warung put you off as you’ll find the best authentic Balinese food in a warung. They will have limited menus, however, what they serve will be delicious, especially if you like to explore different dishes. Oh and cheap too just a fraction of the price you are used to paying at home.
A warung can also mean small shop, so you could anything from find fruit and vegetables to light bulbs sold and the “shop” is called a Warung. Mostly though most people would mean a place to eat when they mention a Warung.
A genuine Warung doesn’t add tax to the bill so no ++ which is a bonus for you and a bonus for the Warung owners as they made another sale.
