Resorts in Sanur Bali are sometimes called Sanur hotels, which can be confusing when booking your Sanur Bali accommodation. This is due to the definitions of resorts and hotels. Resorts include accommodation, restaurants, bars, swimming pools, gyms, kids’ clubs, water sports, and entertainment. Hotels are generally just rooms with very few, if any, amenities.
Often in Bali, a property is called a hotel when, in fact, it is a resort if the definition above is used. Some of the properties below are called Sanur hotels, however, they are in fact Sanur resorts.

We’ve visited Sanur many times, as I’ve mentioned here and here. As I mentioned here, we planned to move to Bali in 2020 or 2021 and live in Sanur for a year or so. However, Covid changed those plans and we plan to live in Sanur in a few years.

The accommodation in Sanur varies from cheap and cheerful to high-end luxury resorts. The Sanur Bali hotels and resorts cater to all types of travellers, from backpackers to families, couples and even extended families. If you are part of a large group, there are plenty of Sanur Villas to choose from, too, some within the grounds of resorts.

Intercontinental Sanur – (Fairmont Sanur)

The Intercontinental Sanur, previously known as the Fairmont Sanur, is located on Sanur Beach. The resort is set within 4 hectares of beautiful gardens with water features dotted throughout.
All the accommodations are luxury suites, some of the largest of which I’ve enjoyed while staying in Bali. Think ensuites and massive enclosed (with flyscreens) outdoor balconies the size of bedrooms. Every in-room amenity you can think of, as well as beautiful views stretching out towards the beachfront, make this property one of the best beach resorts in Bali.
And as notorious as Bali and Asia are for rock-hard beds, you’ll feel like you are sleeping on a cloud in the Intercontinental’s superior bedding, as you would expect from one of the best resorts in Bali.
If you particularly want seclusion and privacy, then the 3-bedroom Intercontinental villas within the resort’s grounds might suit your liking. For more information about the Intercontinental Villas click here.
Did I mention the spectacular infinity pool that overlooks this popular Sanur beach resort? Relax around the pool in the double sunbeds or break up your day with a trip to the world-class Day Spa.
The Intercontinental welcomes children and families, and the resort has a kid’s club and a children’s swimming pool.
The Intercontinental Sanur should definitely be on your list for a relaxing, pampered holiday.

Hyatt Regency Sanur

This iconic Sanur resort opened in November 1973 as the Bali Hyatt. Bali’s first international hotel, built to reflect Indonesian culture in style and décor, closed its doors 40 years later, in late 2013.
Fast forward to December 2018, after lengthy delays, she was reborn as Hyatt Regency Bali. Major renovations have taken place whilst still holding onto her old Balinese charm visitors to Bali love.
This premium resort is spread across nine hectares and is set in beautiful tropical gardens, which span 500 meters of the Sanur beachfront.
Throughout the resort, you’ll find open-air restaurants and bars overlooking the stunning views of the Indian Ocean. The pizzas from the wood-fired ovens are arguably some of the best in Bali. There is also a piano lounge if you want a quieter evening.
The Hyatt Regency Bali has three swimming pools, including a children’s pool, a 24-hour fitness centre, a kids’ club, and a Shankha Day Spa.

Maya Sanur

This Sanur accommodation opened in 2015 and is located midway along the main street of Sanur Jl. Tamblingan. The Maya Sanur Resort & Spa stretches to the Sanur beachfront, placing it in the Sanur Bali luxury resorts category.
While this luxury Bali beach resort is kid—and family-friendly, its opulence and state-of-the-art facilities mainly attract couples.
With spacious rooms and contemporary design, all rooms overlook the main pool or “lagoon”, with ground-level rooms having direct access. A gorgeous second-family pool overlooks Sanur Beach, Bali.
For total privacy and seclusion, ritzy beachfront pool suites are available, featuring marble bathrooms and up-to-the-minute facilities.
One benefit of COVID-19 was that we picked up an incredible deal from Luxury Escapes and stayed in one of the pool suites for 17 nights. The deal was very popular, and our wait time to visit was over 18 months.

Dine at one of the two on-site restaurants. Reef is upmarket, with sought-after individual pavilions that appear to “float” in the pool. Food at Reef includes burgers, salads, and themed buffet evenings.
Check out the uber-popular swanky Tree Bar for happy hour. It has one of the best views in Sanur, overlooking the Indian Ocean. You can also listen to cool vibes of live music while sipping cocktails and gazing out to Lembongan Island or, if you are really lucky, the mighty Mount Agung.

So many amazing options for accommodation in Bali. I would love to stay at the Fairmont. The world-class Day Spa sounds amazing, but I bet the views of the beach from the infinity pool are breathtaking! I’m such a sucker for infinity pools 🙂
Thanks, Candy. Oh yes, the views from the infinity pool are breathtaking. To sit around the pool and gaze at the ocean is too 🙂
Wow, these are all so so so beautiful! I’ve always heard of the amazing accommodation options in Bali and this just confirms it. These photos make my desire to get to Bali ASAP even more extreme!
Oh, there are some amazing accommodation options in Sanur Samantha. Villas are a great option too!
Great round up of the resorts in Bali. While we are not typically resort people (prefering smaller, boutique accomodations to large corporate sprawling ones) I must say the Fairmont sounds like an ideal escape if we were seeking some R&R time with pampering … yes, this man does like a good spa escape from time to time. 😉
Thanks, Michael. The Fairmont is a fabulous resort, especially the pampering in their spa. Perfect for women AND men! 😉
Thanks for this guide on resorts in Sanur. You make a good point with the difference between a ‘Hotel’ and a ‘Resort.’ I can see how you could accidentally book the wrong accommodation by just looking at the name of the place and a photo of the room. You’ve definitely found some AMAZING resorts there!
Thanks Emma. Yes there are some fabulous resorts in Sanur!
Sanur is the first place I stayed in Bali many years ago. At the time I was staying in hostels but I did stay at the Puri Santrian and the Griya Santrian later on, they were both very good. Out of your list, I have to say the Maya Sanur looks really nice, I like how the pool meanders past the rooms and you can gently slide in for a swim. I think it’s about time I go back to Bali!
Thanks Dephine. Bali is always a good idea!
The Maya is a beautiful resort to stay and the Tree Bar there is one for the list at least once. 🙂
What great accommodation tips. Thanks a lot!
Honestly, they look exactly as I imagined in Bali. I would like to have a seat in the warmth of the pool now.
You are welcome! I gather it’s pretty cold where you are. 🙂
My husband stayed in Sanur in 1980, just before we met and he said there wasn’t much there at all. We spent a day strolling around here earlier this year and noticed that there are some lovely upmarket resorts here now. I will be saving this post as a guide for when we do visit Bali again as I would like to stay here.
Thanks Kathy. Sanur has certainly changed even in the last few years we’ve noticed a huge difference. I like that they have a building height that is no higher than a coconut tree. No huge concrete jungle hotels in Sanur!
This places is stunning, I didnt visitied Sanur while in Bali. Guess good excuse to go again. Great post
It’s a real hidden gem of Bali not that you need an excuse 😉
I was just in Bali this spring, but stayed in Semniyak and Ubud. All of these resorts in Sanur look amazing though! Love the hanging green plants at Maya, but the architecutre at Fairmont definitely surprised me the most. Will defs be bookmarking this for the next time I return!
The Fairmont is an amazing place to stay I highly recommend it!
These places all look amazing! Makes me want to get back to Bali right about now, haha. I think I would go for the Maya – I love that it’s family-friendly (and not just for older kids, as I always travel with my baby and toddler!) but still upscale and ritzy. Great round-up of places!
Thanks Dani, both you and the kids would thoroughly enjoy it of that I’m sure 🙂
Thanks for sharing wonderful resorts or hotels in Sanur Bali. It is good you informed us that resorts in Sanur Bali are sometimes called Sanur hotels which can be confusing. I too agree resorts are with everything and hotels are only rooms with few things. Sanur Villas look very exotic and I loved them.
Yes it is confusing when you don’t know. We love staying in villas!
